Simple Steps to Avoid a Disaster
Step 1: Turn off the water
The best place to down off your water is at the water mains or meter. In most Melbourne properties your water meter is generally located at the front corner of your property. If you are unsure we recommend knocking on your neighbours front door, often there is a pattern to where the water meter is located.
Once you have found the water meter shut off the water by turning the lever towards the “off” position, this will stop water from causing more damage from the burst pipe.
Step 2: Turn on your taps
Now you have turned off the water at the mains it’s time to relieve the remaining water from the system. Go inside and turn on several taps around the house, the water will then leave the pipes and go down your drain rather than leaking out through your burst pipe and causing more damage.
Step 3: Call All Plumb Plumbing for a same day call out on 0411 335893.
A burst pipe needs to be tended too right away ensuring you have access to clean water and sanitation as soon as possible. By calling our customer service team we can arrange an emergency same day call out and have someone there right away. To make our job quicker and easier we recommend trying to clean up as much of the excess water as possible and moving your personal belongings away from the area to ensure they don’t get damaged by the water.
Why do Burst Pipes Occur?
A burst pipe can happen for a number of reasons no matter how well maintained your home is, it is also hard to keep an eye on the condition of your pipes as many of them are located in walls or buried deep underground. Most Melbourne homes now have PVC pipes, pvc pipes are designed to withstand the daily rigours of Melbourne life and last for years to come. However, sometimes the following situations can cause them to be placed under stress and burst or leak.
- High water pressure
- Incorrectly installed pipes
- Clogged water pipes
- Ageing hot water system
- Accidental damage
- Frozen pipes
